Dear Family,

Thought I'd better write and let everyone know what is happening in Alpine. I just noticed the leaves are beginning to change color on the mountain. The harvest is coming in and I have a very guilty feeling because I haven't made chili sauce yet. I began my Christmas projects yesterday... getting out the patterns and all. Generally during the day I work at my desk. I'm learning a lot and I've almost completed the Acquisition requirements for Franklin Squires. Basically that means I should be able to find property and do all the comparables to see if it's a great investment or not. Now that I know the "game," I will try to get good at it.
Last week for FHE Dad challenged all of us to memorize the Declaration of Independence by October 7.  It begins, "When in the course of Human events...." It took Dad and me at least a week to get the first paragraph. Dad has most of it down by now. Just ask him to repeat it to you sometime.
Tricia, Wendy, and Julie have dates quite often now. You'll have to ask them about them. Actually, the young men who have happened to come over are first introduced to you all via our family photo....and all have returned for a second date. Whew!
Tricia leaves early every morning for "work." She hates it when I call it "school," even if it is Mountain Ridge Middle School. She keeps the computer lab running with the children.  Weekends she works at the Highland Gardens.
Wendy leaves early and gets home late. She's taking an anatomy class that keeps her pretty busy with homework. Then she works at Backyard Adventures as the receptionist.
Julie is all moved into her apartment at 816 East 100 South. She shares a very old home with two other LDS girls. We celebrated her 19th birthday at the Bear Lake cabin. She received a cell phone (Verizon, 801-618-6992), a portable metronome, a home-made quilt for her bed, and a crystal with a viola etched in it. She has made it into the University Philharmonia Orchestra, a quartet ,and passed off  a music theory class.
Last weekend we visited Bear Lake with Dick's, Jeff's, part of Sue's family, and Grandma. We had a fun and very loud time. The kids did a lot of tubing and UNO. It was good to get back home. Dad worked on his ship, which is coming along very nicely. He made the railings for the deck. I worked on the cross stitch names for each of your picture frames.
I'm pretty tired. I think I will hit the sack and finish this tomorrow. Love, Mom
